Be Like Water
As part of the yoga by donation classes that I have been teaching, I usually end Savasana (the final resting pose) by reading a poem or a quote that resonates with me and that fits the theme of the class. Since I enjoy writing, on a couple of occasions I felt inspired to write something to read to the class. In the first class I did this I chose not to share that I was the author (for so many reasons…probably a good topic for a future post!). But in today’s class, I decided to reveal that I wrote the poem, which felt scary and vulnerable, and also positive and exciting. So in that same spirit, I’m going to share the piece here. Today’s class was focused on the element of water:
Be Like Water
Be like water —
Formless,
Not defined to one size or shape,
Allowing life and energy to continually flow through every ounce of your being.
Be like water —
Calm and delicate,
Strong and powerful,
Sending cool ripples of refreshing energy through your rhythmic waves.
Be like water —
Ever-changing,
Making your imprint
as you wash over the Earth
and onto new land with the changing tides.
Be like water —
Fluid and expansive,
Taking up space
as you glide onto the shore, offering your clarity and beauty as you arrive.
